Davidson Day’s football team packed the bleachers with good reason Nov. 22. The Patriots won their third straight state championship with a 69-28 rout against Harrells Christian in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II championship at Northside Christian. Davidson Day (12-1) wasn’t forced to punt, scored 35 points in the third quarter alone and had the fourth quarter to unofficially celebrate along the sidelines. They became the first lake-area team to win state championships in their first three varsity seasons, passing Hopewell High softball, which did it their first two years (2002 and 2003)Photos by Ken Bumgarner.
