The First Annual Huntersville Chili Cook Off was Cancelled due to lack of "chili cooking" participants... unfortunately we didn't get word of the cancellation so we showed up to support the support crew and took a few pictures. Birkdale Village hosted a Halloween Themed Scavenger hunt that was a HUGE hit with the kids and shoppers. Clue Sheets were available for participants to find items in the plaza's stores. The 40th Carolina Balloonfest occurred this past weekend at Statesville Regional Airport. The CROWDS were so huge that most patrons had to be shuttled in from the Iredell County Fairgrounds. If you haven't attended a Balloon Launch - mark your calendars for next year - this is one unique event that you don't want to miss - pictures can't do this event the justice it deserves. The 1st Annual MVK's Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction was a great success! The proceeds went to benefit the "Most Valuable Kids of Charlotte Metro", a nonprofit organization providing underserved children access to live sporting sporting events and entertainment through ticket donations. Trails for Tails is a major fundraising event benefitting Road To Home Canine Refuge and Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love that helps with the costs associated for the care of rescued dogs while looking for loving homes. Rural Hill Held their Annual Food Truck Rally from 5:30-9:30pm - More than 20 food and misc vendors were on site to make sure your bellies were full, and there were TONS of children's activities such as hayrides, bounce houses, and more. Live Entertainment kept the crowd entertained while they enjoyed this wonderful evening at Rural Hill. North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital and Cornelius PARC hosted an Art Reception at North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital. Four esteemed judges, including Barbara McKay (TV personality) and Brad Howard (President, Langtree Group) will choose the top 3 art-dog finalists from 12 on display. Each piece was crafted by a different art class at Bailey Middle School. The Winners will be announced tomorrow 9/27 on Facebook. Taste of Birkdale was Rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday and it didn't Stop the Crowds from Showing UP! The second race in the Summit Twilight Racing Series broughtover 250 runners, volunteers, and spectators to Davidson on June 8—allcompeting in the 4-mile obstacle challenge. Summit Solstice had participantsrunning roads, trudging through a tire maze, hopscotching 100 yards,taste-testing Ben & Jerry’s concoctions and much more. For the second year in a row, Summit Coffee utilized therace to raise money for Nothing But Nets. The campaign extension of the UnitedNations Foundation was generated to raise awareness and funding to fightmalaria in Africa. Fundraising dollars go topurchasing and shipping long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito nets toAfrica—the goal of the grassroots campaign to cover Africawith lifesaving bed nets. Over $3,000 will be donated to Nothing But Nets from thisyear’s Summit Solstice.
Patriot Charities hosted the first Old Bags Luncheon on May 23 at the Peninsula Clubin Cornelius. The trademarked event has been held in New York City, Los Angelesand other cities across the country. The event exceeded its goal of $100,000.More than 300 people attended the luncheon and participated in the large silentauction. The auction featured many new and gently used designer handbags, jewelry,designer shoes and other premium items.The auction items were donated by a varietyof vendors and individuals, including Neiman Marcus, Louis Vuitton, Coach,Kate Spade and Dillard’s. The Patriot Charities is a nonprofi t thatraises money to assist local programs and nonprofi ts in the Carolinas concerningwounded military and their families. Since 2006, the Patriot Charities has aided in thefunding of more than 15 local wounded warrior programs.
