DAVIDSON – Games against North Carolina and Virginia will highlight the Davidson College men’s basketball team non-conference schedule in the 2014-15 season.
The Wildcats also will have six non-conference home games and five on the road before launching into their first season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Davidson, prior to tipping off the regular season at home against Catholic on Nov. 15 at Belk Arena, will host in-state foe Lenoir-Rhyne in an exhibition game Nov. 11.
Davidson, which joined the new conference in July, also will entertain Campbell (Nov. 18), UNC Wilmington (Nov. 29), Charlotte (Dec. 3), Stetson (Dec. 6) and Niagara (Dec. 13).
The Wildcats will play North Carolina at Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena on Nov. 22. Davidson’s other nonconference road games include matchups at Central Florida (Nov. 26), Montana (Dec. 10), College of Charleston (Dec. 20) and Virginia (Dec. 30).
The Atlantic 10 Conference will announce its conference basketball schedule in about a month. But Davidson knows who its league opponents will be.
The Wildcats will play a home-and-home series with Duquesne, George Mason, George Washington, Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth.
The Wildcats will also host conference foes Dayton, Fordham, St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis, and play conference road games only at La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph’s.
The A-10 is coming off a historical season in which a record six teams earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, including Dayton's run to the Elite Eight, the seventh straight year an A-10 team has reached an NCAA Regional round (Sweet 16). The league also had seven teams ranked or earning votes in the national poll and finished with six teams in the RPI top 50.
The 2015 Atlantic 10 men’s basketball tournament will be played March 11-15 at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Davidson was 20-13 last season, its last in the Southern Conference, and lost in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).
