CORNELIUS – Consign on A Dime is celebrating its four-year anniversary with a Thank You Customer Sales Appreciation Day that includes refreshments and savings.

The event takes place in the 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 26 at 19207 W. Catawba Ave.

The 4,500-square-foot showroom carries home furnishings, rugs, home décor, lamps, mirrors, art work, furniture, accent pieces and accessories. It also offers name brand furniture at discounted prices. 

“We’re unique in that we offer our customers a 24-hour ‘Try Before You Buy’ concept,” co-owner Sandra Getts said. “This allows our shoppers to take items home from our store to see if the style or color scheme marries with their existing décor.”

Realtors Care Day wins award

CHARLOTTE – The American Society of Association Executives awarded the Housing Opportunity Foundation’s Realtors Care Day program with the distinguished 2014 “Power of A” Gold Award.

The “Power of A” Gold Awards recognize organizations for innovative, effective and broad-reaching programs and activities. The home-repair project has helped 129 homeowners over the past six years.

Realtors Care Day is part of the Housing Opportunity Foundation, the charitable-arm of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association.  

“Realtors, through the hard work of the foundation, have shown their commitment to helping neighbors across the Mecklenburg-Iredell county communities, and this award serves as recognition for the more than 3,000 volunteers over the past six years who have helped make Realtors Care Day a nationally recognized success story,” Association/CarolinaMLS President Joe Rempson said.

MSC reports $720M for third quarter

MELVILLE, N.Y. – MSC Industrial Direct Co. reported net sales of $720.5 million for the fiscal third quarter 2014, an increase of 13.1 percent over the same quarter a year ago.

Adjusted operating income for the third quarter was $107.3 million, or 14.9 percent of net sales, compared to $106.6 million, or 16.7 percent of net sales in the same quarter a year ago.

MSC expects net sales for fiscal fourth quarter 2014 to be between $718 million and $730 million.

The company distributes metalworking and maintenance, repair and operations supplies to industrial customers.

Home sales, prices increase in June

CHARLOTTE – Home sales rose 3.7 percent from 3,502 properties sold in June 2013 to 3,631 properties sold in June 2014, according to the Carolina Multiple Listing Services data.

Sales are up 13.7 percent compared to last month.

“We are pleased to see sales rebounding in June after May’s decline,” said Joe Rempson, president of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association. “The huge jump in pending contracts should signal strong sales in the coming months.”

Preliminary pending sales counts for June totaled 3,871, an increase of 24.4 percent over last year.

The region has a 5.4-month supply of homes for sale. Properties stay on the market an average of 125 days.

Distressed activity (foreclosures and short sales) accounted for 6.1 percent of closed sales in June, down from 9.5 percent a year ago.

State targets unemployed workers

RALEIGH – The N.C. Division of Workforce Solutions has received a federal grant worth $6.1 million to expand its programs to train workers who lost a job in high-demand industries.

People served through this grant will be those who have been unemployed for the long term, more than 27 weeks, with a special priority given to veterans. 

The division will work in collaboration with the Workforce Development Boards and the N.C. Community Colleges in the targeted areas to offer programs.

Aquesta appoints board members

CORNELIUS – Aquesta Bank elected a new board of directors for Aquesta Financial Holdings, the new bank holding company for Aquesta Bank.

The new board of directors consists of Craig Larsen of Revita Medical (chairman), Jim Borders of AC Controls Company (vice chairman), Jim Engel of Aquesta Bank, Ginger Griffin of Ginger Griffin Marketing & Design, Paul Dougovito (retired), Brian Fletcher of Abaci Capital Advisors and Charles Knox of the Knox Group.

“The bank holding company will allow Aquesta greater flexibility as to financing, a more efficient capital structure and faster more efficient execution on any acquisitions that may be identified,” Jim Engel said.

Aquesta Financial Holdings has two primary subsidiaries: Aquesta Bank and Aquesta Insurance Services.

 

Realty firm celebrates milestone

CORNELIUS – July 6 marked the 20th anniversary of Noel Clark’s real estate career with Lake Norman Realty.  

The firm celebrated the milestone with a reception July 11 in Davidson.

Throughout her 20 years, Clark has received numerous awards, including Top Producer – Mooresville Office and Top Listing Associate, as well as earned the Certified Residential Specialist, awarded to associates in residential sales.
