Pine Lake Prep hires former Davidson football coach

DAVIDSON – Pine Lake Prep hired Brett Hayford, a former Davidson College assistant, as head football coach June 3. He coached more than 20 years with the Wildcats, including the defensive line most recently.

Hayford replaces Jason Moore, last season’s head coach, who will remain as offensive coordinator. Pine Lake Prep was 0-10 last season, the first in which it fielded a varsity team. The Pride was outscored 473-95.

“My goal is to teach the game of football but also teach some life lessons and get them ready for college,” Hayford said. “It’s not just about football; it’s about leadership, the importance of academics, and life lessons that prepare them for college. I want them to look back upon their four years playing football as a great experience.”

Hayford, a 1993 Davidson graduate, was a defensive lineman for the Wildcats and played on the baseball team.
