CONCORD – Cannon School plans to name its Upper School building after Davidson resident Matt Gossage.
Trustees surprised Gossage with the news March 7 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, where 360 friends of the school celebrated raising more than $7.1 million for its capital campaign.
As head of school, Gossage led the largest capital campaign in school history. It will result in five construction projects to benefit its arts, athletics and middle school programs.
“My wife, Linda, and I have never received an honor like this” Gossage said. “I want to thank you for saying in such a clear and public way how much you value what we have done together as a school community over these last eight years. This has humbled me, and I will never, ever forget it."
Gossage has served as head of school since 2006.
