CORNELIUS – Colene Worley Deaton, 82, died Sept. 17, 2013.

She was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Centre, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, G.L. Deaton Jr.; birth mother and father, Tip Worley; step-mother, Tempie; and son-in-law, Mike.

Deaton retired from Freightliner.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin; daughters, Charlotte Duncan and husband, David, Jeanne Mitravijarn, Renee Shoemaker and husband, Jeff, Tammye Teague and husband, Gerald; step-daughter, Sheila Zeman and husband, Tommy, Sharon Henson and husband, Roger; and step-son, Steve Deaton.

Funeral services were held Sept. 20 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Patricia Lynch Marblo

DAVIDSON – Patricia Lynch Marblo, 85, died Sept. 17, 2013, at her home.

She was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Daniel and Elizabeth Smith Lynch.

Marblo retired as a supervisor in the workers compensation department for the State of New York.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Marblo; sister, Janet; and brothers, Alan and Donald.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy and husband, Dale, Caryl and husband, Tom and Regina and husband, Bob; sons, Tom and wife, Mary and Chris and wife, Annette; sister, Elizabeth; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sept. 19 at the Salisbury National Cemetery.

Margaret Crawford Hewitt (PIC)

DAVIDSON – Margaret Crawford Hewitt, 71, died Sept. 15, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-Charlotte.

She was born Dec. 20, 1941, in Cumbria, England, to the late William Gleason and Agnes Miller Jack Nance Darling.

Hewitt had several jobs including a chemist dispensary and as a time keeper and wage dispenser in the naval shipyard.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean; and brother, Andrew.

Survivors include her son, Tony; daughter, Karen and husband, John; sister, Lyn; brother, Gordon; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sept. 25 at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

HUNTERSVILLE – Derrick “Tony” Antonio Bennett, 46, died Sept. 14, 2013, at Novant Health Huntersville.

He was born Aug. 29, 1967, in Brooklyn N.Y., to Herminia Patterson Bennett and the late Stanley Bennett.

Survivors include his mother Herminia of Huntersville; son, Derrick Bennett Jr.; daughter, India Bennett; brother, Dennis and wife, Deby; sisters, Sherylann VanDuzen and Shaylah Bennett-Aeby; four nieces; and eight nephews.

CORNELIUS – Laurie Susan List Cordes, 61, died Sept. 14, 2013.

She was born Mar. 28, 1952, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Rudolph List and the late Joan Sickler List.

Cordes worked for Kuester Management Group.

Survivors include her father, Rudolph List and his wife, Shirley; sisters, Karen List and Judith List and her husband, Bret Buesing; brother, Michael List and wife, Linda of Huntersville and Christopher List and wife, Lanie; five nephews; and three nieces.

Helen Keyser (FLAG)

HUNTERSVILLE – Helen Keyser, 90, died Sept. 13, 2013, at The Haven at Highland Creek.

She was born April 14, 1923, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Henry and Bernice Nixon Rohrbach.

Keyser was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a transcriptionist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Keyser; and brothers, Ted, Paul and Ralph Ronhrbach.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Moreland and husband, Dwayne and Terry
Downs and husband, Fernando; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held Sept. 20 at James Funeral Home.

Charles Tucker Houghton

HUNTERSVILLE – Charles “Chuck” Tucker Houghton, 58, died Sept. 12, 2013.

He was born March 2, 1955, to the late June and Bob Houghton.

Houghton was the vice president and general manager of Hawe Hydraulics.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike; and sister, Katie Perkins.

Survivors include his wife, Robin of Huntersville; daughter, Kristin Derrin and husband, Luke; brothers, Steven and wife, Theresa, Jeff and wife, Lisa, and Dave Houghton; and 18 nieces and nephews.
