CORNELIUS – Students were evacuated from Hough High School Monday morning as a suspicious package was found on campus.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police bomb squad deemed the item nonhazardous just after 1 p.m. CMS police and the Cornelius Police Department also responded to the call.

School students and personnel were evacuated to the football field.

CMS Police tweeted that they are asking parents not to overload 911 with calls or respond to the school at this time. Parents should be receiving a connectEd messeage.

The evacuation comes nearly one week after police reported to Hough High twice on April 23 to investigate two separate bomb threats. Betsy Shores, with Cornelius Police, said she could not say whether today's incident was related to last week's but that more information would be released soon.
