HUNTERSVILLE – Hough High’s Ryan Wydra won the singles championship at the I-MECK 4A conference tennis tournament at Hopewell High.

Wydra, a junior, beat Lake Norman High’s Greg Dow 6-0, 6-1 in the final. In the semifinals, Wydra beat Hopewell’s Tyler Armato 6-0, 6-0.

Wydra also won the I-MECK 4A singles championship as a freshman. As a sophomore last spring, Wydra and Collin Black teamed to win the conference doubles title.

 

• Sean Wydra (Hough), Cameron Folmar (North Mecklenburg High), Ryan Wydra, Dow and Armato qualified for the N.C. 4A West regional, which will be played May 3-4 at Ardrey Kell High in Charlotte.

 

• Mooresville High’s Spencer Llewellyn and Perry Hicks won the conference doubles championship with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory against Lake Norman High’s Sean Gallagher and Ryan Farley.

Both teams qualified for the regional, as did Justin Elliot/Marc Spano (North Mecklenburg), Tanner Purvis/Clayton Bruin (Lake Norman) and Jacob Stechly/Brady Sowers (Mooresville).
