Hough student appointed to West Point
CORNELIUS – Hough High School senior Patrick Cowley has received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Both of Cowley’s parents, Shawn and Jennifer Cowley, graduated from West Point. Patrick Crowley is interested in studying mechanical engineering and serving as an Army engineer.
Congressman Robert Pittenger has invited Cowley and the other 11 West Point appointees from the 9th Congressional District for a visit in Washington D.C.
New school to hold Beginners Day
HUNTERSVILLE – Grand Oak Elementary School will open its doors for the first time in August. It has coordinated with Torrence Creek Elementary School to hold a Beginners Day for the rising kindergarteners who will attend Grand Oak Elementary. It will take place in Torrence Creek Elementary’s multipurpose room from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on April 18.
Long Creek Elementary to perform “Aladdin”
HUNTERSVILLE – Long Creek Elementary School students will perform the musical “Aladdin” for its fourth annual musical.
There will be 105 students from grades three through fifth performing. Hopewell High School students will run the sound and lights.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on March 21 and 22 at Hopewell High School. Tickets are $2 and can be bought at Long Creek Elementary or at the door prior to the performance. It is recommended that tickets be bought in advance.

Parent University to focus on personalized plans
CORNELIUS – Bailey Middle School’s next Parent University session will take place at 6 p.m. March 19. It will focus on meeting your child’s need with a personalized education plan.
A personalized education plan is a tool used by schools to keep an eye on problem areas for a student and provide strategies to address them. The class will discuss such plans for students who are experiencing difficulties in Literacy and Language Arts.
