HUNTERSVILLE – Parents, students and staff at Saint Mark Catholic School recently celebrated the school’s 10th anniversary by dedicating a statue of a lion, the school’s mascot.

The lion statue is a gift from more than 30 families who wanted to commemorate their time at St. Mark Catholic School.

“Words cannot express the gratitude we have for all that this school has given to our families,” said Gail Ferraro, former Parent-Teacher Organization president and coordinator of the group gift. “We wanted to leave behind a symbol that would inspire other families for years to come.”

The statue stands more than 6 feet tall, weighs more than 1,700 pounds and stares regally from a custom-built foundation, guarding the gateway into the school. A plaque at the base of the sculpture reads: “A time to celebrate the beauty, gift and blessing of being part of the St Mark community. Thanks for the Memories! With Love, The departing families of 2013. Start as a cub. Leave as a LION!”
