Charlotte Magazine honors area dentist

CORNELIUS – A local dentist who loves giving his patients glowing smiles has found one on himself recently. The November 2013 issue of Charlotte Magazine named Dr. Martin White to its list of “Top Charlotte Area Dentists 2013,” which was followed by The American Registry’s addition of Dr. White to its “Registry of Business Excellence.”  

“The fact that Charlotte Magazine included me in its selection … signals that my constant effort to deliver excellent work has paid off,” White said. “It is gratifying to be recognized in this way.”

A Charlotte native, White attended Davidson College and Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and has practiced since 1997. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Association.

Fitness center hosts open house

CORNELIUS – CoreFIT 24-7, a new fitness center, will host an open house.

The event features face painting for kids, smoothie samples from Madalyn’s Coffee & Tea and raffle prizes every 15 minutes including an originally autographed framed picture of NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young.

CORNELIUS – Simplicity Interiors hosted a Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting for its official opening in November.

Ally and Scott Whalen own the retail and design shop at 19801 South Main St.

Scott handles marketing and Ally is the interior designer out of UNC Greensboro. Ally’s credits include articles in Better Homes & Gardens and Cottage Style, with two others to be published in the spring.

Pinnacle Building gets new tenants

HUNTERSVILLE – The Pinnacle Building welcomed CAG Publishing LLC and Jordin’s Dance Studio as new tenants.

Chamber seeks sponsors for business expo

DAVIDSON – Plans are underway for the 2014 Lake Norman Chamber Business Expo to be held at Davidson College’s Belk Arena. 

The region’s premier business tradeshow will be held 11 a.m.-5 p.m. March 7. 

“Lake Norman is home to many unique businesses,” said Bill Russell, president of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce. “These particular businesses meet the lake lifestyle that is attractive to the new homeowners, residents, and businesses moving to the Charlotte region’s dynamic market.”

Russell cites the energy of the event, the attendees and the special events created by the Expo’s steering committee as reasons why the expo has been a success since its inception in 2001.

The Lake Norman Chamber is now seeking sponsors for the event.

Birkdale Village gives $2,500 check to nonprofit

HUNTERSVILLE – Birkdale Village presented a $2,500 check to Ace and TJ’s Grin Kids as part of its 2013 holiday fundraiser effort.

Birkdale Village committed to helping Grin Kids this year by hosting a three-week promotional fundraiser Oct. 26-Nov. 16 where many activities took place. The culmination of the promotion was the Nov. 16 tree lighting.

Birkdale Village also donated all the parade registration fees of the Nov. 16 event to Grin Kids.

Ace & TJ's Grin Kids takes children, ages 5-12, who are terminally ill and chronically handicapped to Disney World with their entire family. During the five-day vacation, all expenses are paid, including air travel, hotel and meals.

 

County jobless rate drops slightly

RALEIGH – Mecklenburg County’s unemployment rate decreased from 7.8 percent in September to 7.7 percent in October, according to statistics released Dec. 5 by the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Mecklenburg reported a 8.9 percent jobless rate in October 2012.

Some 38,928 residents of the 507,764-person workforce were out of work in October.

Unemployment rates decreased in 56 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in October.

After Hours event takes on Christmas theme

DAVIDSON – The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce hosts a Business After Hours networking event with food, drinks and Christmas carols.

The Davidson Collegium Musicum will perform Christmas carols.
