CHARLOTTE – Maj. Gen. Leslie Purser will serve as grand marshal of the US Airways Salute to Veterans Parade.

The event showcases local middle and high school bands, Junior ROTC programs, active military units, antique cars and veteran organizations.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Nov. 9 in Uptown Charlotte, along Tryon Street. More than 2,000 participants are expected to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. 

Purser leads the 108th Training Command, a 2-star unit in Charlotte. She has received several awards including the Legion of Merit with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

The parade will be preceded by the Carolinas Freedom Foundation Wreath Laying Ceremony at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 8 at The Square in Uptown Charlotte and the US Airways Freedom Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Sheraton Hotel, 555 S. McDowell St.

Carolinas Freedom Foundation will honor Charlie “Two Shoes” Tsui, College of the Ozarks and Rolling Thunder with awards at the breakfast.
