Concord Robinson (0-5, 0-1) at Hough (5-0, 1-0)

Time: 7 p.m. Oct. 4

Last meeting: This is the first meeting.

Players to watch: Robinson – QB Alex Thornton, WR Jimmy Bellamy; Hough – RB Tylan Murrell, QB Josh Stilley, WR Caleb Hines

The skinny: Hough’s Stilley set a school record with six touchdown passes last week. He directs a potent offense that’s scored 28 or more every game. The Huskies can’t get caught looking ahead to the Mallard Creek game Oct. 11, which could match unbeaten teams. Robinson has been outscored 173-66.

 West Charlotte (0-5, 0-1) at North Mecklenburg (2-3, 0-1)

Time: 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4

Last meeting: North Mecklenburg won 10-7 last season.

Players to watch: West Charlotte – QB Dirk Cureton, QB Isaiah Kelly, WR Kier Way; North Mecklenburg – QB Nolan Beasley, LB Jaylan Bridges, WR TayRey Tebron

The skinny: North Mecklenburg has shown offensive balance with Beasley (693 passing yards, eight touchdowns), Stephen Langford and Tabron (three scoring catches apiece) and Will Santiago (373 rushing yards). Winless West Charlotte allows an average of 50 points per game.

East Gaston (0-5, 0-1) at Lake Norman Charter (5-1, 0-1)

Time: 7:30 p.m. Oct.  4

Last meeting: This is the first meeting.

Players to watch: East Gaston – WR Charles Brewington, OL Jordan Abernethy, LB Corey Hughes; LN Charter – RB Kodi Moses, WR Petey Fabian, LB Jake Massey

The skinny: Charter was crushed last week (63-7) by Forestview, but will compete for a 2A playoff spot. The passing game fared well behind quarterback Michael Dorsainvil (22-of-38, 174 yards), Fabian (nine catches, 88 yards) and Kurt Wronsky (eight catches, 53 yards).

Providence Day  (4-2) at SouthLake Christian (6-0)

Time: 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4

Last meeting: This is the first meeting.

Players to watch: Providence Day – RB Blake Henderson, RB Lawson Ives, QB Brad Curl; SouthLake – DL Blake Queen, LB Zack Dudan, LB Jack Fording

The skinny: SouthLake has scored 30 or more points in every game and runs well with sophomore Robert Washington Jr., who has scored in every game. Providence Day, a state champion in 2011, is coming off a shutout last week in which it scored all 42 points in the first half.

 Mallard Creek (5-0, 1-0) at Hopewell (1-4, 0-1)

Time: 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4

Last meeting: Mallard Creek won 42-0 last season.

Players to watch: Mallard Creek – QB James Smith, RB Jaylen Samuels, K Tyus Lopez; Hopewell – WR/RB Dominique Heath, RB Dimitris Camp, WR Logan Chester

The skinny: Mallard Creek is a contender for a state championship, so Hopewell will need to play its best game. The Titans were thwarted by turnovers in a loss to Hough last week, and their pass coverage was leaky. But they did move the ball most of the game. Heath is one of the area’s top receivers.
