Joyce Faye Coombs Davidson

HUNTERSVILLE – Joyce Faye Coombs Davidson, 71, died Oct. 23, 2013, at her home.

She was born April 3, 1942, in Jones County, to the late Paul Coombs and Florence Nobles Coombs.

Survivors include her husband, James Davidson; daughter, Jan Davidson of Cornelius; sons, Jay Davidson of Huntersville and Jeff Davidson; sister, Carol Metts and husband, Jack; brothers, Gene and Bobby Coombs; and six grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held Oct. 26 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

Walter Glenn Pope Jr.

CHARLOTTE – Walter “Bob or Bobby” Glenn Pope Jr., 69, died Oct. 22, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1944, in Charlotte, to the late Walter Glenn Pope Sr. and Edna Helms Pope.

Pope was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for several years and retired as a tax auditor for the N.C. Department of Revenue in Charlotte after 30 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Farmer Pope; daughter, Jennifer Balesky and husband, Thomas of Cornelius; son, Johnathan Walter Pope; sisters, Glenda Towery and husband Tommy, Judy Herring, Carolyn  Young and husband, Myles and Janice Pope; and one granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Oct. 26 at James Funeral Home.

Don Sherrill Sims

CORNELIUS – Don Sherrill Sims, 82, died Oct. 19, 2013, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

He was born March 6, 1931, in Cornelius, to the late Jess and Carrie Sherrill Sims.

Sims was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for 53 years at Ruth’s Salads in Charlotte.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie; sons, Stephen and wife, Kandy, Timothy and wife, Michelle and Bobby; daughters, Donna Rogers and husband, Troy, and Angela Thornton and husband, Tracey; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at James Funeral Home.

Eleanor Burns Ethridge

HUNTERSVILLE – Eleanor Burns Ethridge, 84, died Oct. 18, 2013, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in New York City, N.Y., to the late Wendell and Stella Johnson Burns.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Ethridge.

Survivors include her son, Ronald; and daughters, Juanita, Diane, Patricia and Barbara.

Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Rutherford County, to the late James Virgil Honeycutt and Ida Mae Kennedy Honeycutt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Durham Sr.
