CHARLOTTE – Girl Scout Troops in Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson plan to collect canned goods for Loaves & Fishes, an emergency food pantry program that serves the Lake Norman area.
Troops will go door-to-door to collect non-perishable food items on the morning of Oct. 12 as part of its “A Can if You Can” campaign. Residents can also drop off food donations between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St.
Food collected will be used to fill food pantries at the Ada Jenkins Center and Huntersville United Methodist Church.
Priority needs include canned meat, canned fruit, canned pastas, 100 percent juice and cereal.
Hundreds of girls will participate in the drive, led by the Meck 1 Service Unit Team for the Girl Scout’s Hornets’ Nest Council.
Loaves & Fishes is a nonprofit emergency food pantry program that provides a week’s worth of nutritional groceries at no cost to people in Mecklenburg County who are experiencing a short-term crisis.
