Ann H. Moretz

CORNELIUS – Ann H. Moretz, 75, died Oct. 17, 2013.

She was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Charleston, S.C., to the late Edward S. and Betty Reynolds Howard.

Mortetz taught advanced placement history at Andover High School in Linthicum, Md., and at North Mecklenburg High School. She was a counselor at the north campus of Central Piedmont Community College and owned and operated Jelly Jar Cross Stitch, a needlework design business that marketed her original designs nationwide.

Survivors include her husband, H. Lynn Moretz; daughters, Joy Levering and husband, Matthew, and Jan Lowry and husband, Cameron; brother, Charles Howard and wife, Eileen; sisters, Marion Brown and husband, Ralph and Dorothy Nearing; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 20 at Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Samuel R. Spencer Jr. 

DAVIDSON – Samuel R. Spencer Jr., 94, died Oct. 16, 2013, at The Pines at Davidson.

He was born June 6, 1919, in Rock Hill, S.C., to the late Samuel Reid Spencer and Mary Thomson Spencer.

Spencer was the former president of Davidson College and Mary Baldwin College. He was a U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Spencer Gramling.

Survivors include his wife, Ava; sons, Samuel Spencer III and wife, Candice, Frank Spencer and wife, Melanie and Clayton Spencer; daughter, Ellen Henschen and husband, Gary; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

Bruce Anthony Beckford 

HUNTERSVILLE – Bruce Anthony Beckford, 65, died Oct. 14, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-Main.

He was born Oct. 9, 1948, in Jamaica, to the late George Tomlinson and Eva Norman Watson.

Beckford was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his siblings, Myrna Parkin, Beresford Beckford, Neville Beckford and Hyacinth Morgan.

Annie Margaret Shaw Ferrell

HUNTERSVILLE – Annie Margaret Shaw Ferrell, 86, died Oct. 13, 2013, at Huntersville Oaks.

She was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Lancaster, S.C., to the late John and Bessie Shaw.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; son, Gary; sister, Lucille; brothers, Johnny and Condle; grandchildren, Ricky and Jessica; and great-grandson, Malachi.

Survivors include her sons, Gordon, Bill and wife, Lynn, Ken and wife, Mary of Huntersville and Mark and wife, Clare; sister, Edith Kerley; brothers, Carson and Clifford Shaw; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Statesville Road Baptist Church.

Rebecca Starr Krosting

DAVIDSON – Rebecca Starr Krosting, 66, died Oct. 11, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-Charlotte.

She was born Oct. 15, 1946, in Washington, N.C., to the late Robert and Gladys Chrismon Bland.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Bland.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Krosting; sons, Ron and Timothy Curtis, and Dean Krosting Jr.; sister, Cindi Dedmond and husband, Randy; brothers, Greg and Robert Bland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Washington, D.C.
