Elton Lewis Carwile (FLAG)

CORNELIUS – Elton Lewis Carwile, 85, died Oct. 1, 2013, at his home.

He was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Lynchburg, Va., to the late Radford and Lura Trent Carwile.

Carwile was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a railroad engineer for Norfolk and Southern Railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; daughters, Kathy Burchuk and husband, Daniel, Rhonda Tepper and husband, Kevin and Linda Rudd and husband, Ricky of Cornelius; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 5 at James Funeral Home.

Steven Clark Willis (FLAG)

HUNTERSVILLE – Steven Clark Willis, 60, died Oct. 1, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center.

He was born March 22, 1953, in Glendale, Calif., to Archie Ray Willis and the late Rosemary Clark Willis.

Willis was U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army veteran. He was a professor of business and computer science at Belmont Abbey College and for the last several years worked at Moore Creative in Huntersville.

Survivors include his father; wife, Janet Cederlind Willis; daughter, Barbara Willis Wright of Huntersville; and brothers, John and Thomas Willis.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville.

Greg Franklin Bradfield

DAVIDSON – Greg Franklin Bradfield, 55, died Sept. 30, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1958, in Fulton County, Ga., to John W. Bradfield and the late Betty Bradfield.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Wilber Bradfield; sons, Christopher and Jesse; sister, Wendy Bradfield and husband, Steve Smith; and brother, Glen and wife, Terry.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Quaker Meeting House, 625 South St., Davidson.

Robert Lee Hamblin

HUNTERSVILLE – Robert Lee Hamblin, 85, died Sept. 30, 2013, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

He was born June 29, 1928, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Millard Filmore Hamblin Sr. and Rhoda Alice Muncy Hamblin.

Hamblin was a minister and author.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rachael Langham, Ethel Martin and Mildred Vinson; and brothers, William, Clarence, Earl, Thomas and Millard.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Miller Hamblin; daughters, Bobbie Monger and husband, Karis Kremers and spouse, Mark of Cornelius and Mary Dibble and husband, Sweyden; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Oct. 5 at First Baptist Church.

Hepsie McCullen Tesh

HUNTERSVILLE – Hepsie McCullen Tesh, 88, died Sept. 29, 2013.

She was born July 7, 1925, in Sampson County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Tesh Jr.; sister, Marguerite Basden; brothers, Clay and Joe McCullen; and grandson, Joey Tesh.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Tesh; son, Samuel Tesh III and wife, Pam of Huntersville; sisters, Ada Honeycutt and husband, Jerry, Lila Hollingsworth and husband, Morton and Sylvia Baumgartner and husband, Roger; brother, Odell McCullen and wife, Phyllis; one grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

Services were held Oct. 1 at New Beginnings Moravian Church.

Joan Marie Silver Tapia

CORNELIUS – Joan Marie Silver Tapia, 79, died Sept. 28, 2013, at her home.

She was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Duree, Pa., to the late Peter and Thelma Silver.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony Tapia; son, Anthony James Tapia; daughters, Linda Van Rensalier and Debra Arteaga and husband, Octavio; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Franklin McKinley Penninger (FLAG)

HUNTERSVILLE – Franklin “Frank” McKinley Penninger, 82, died Sept. 27, 2013.

He was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Charlotte, to Jay and Etta Penninger.

Penninger was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired as the owner of Penninger’s Flowers and Gifts in Huntersville.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Van Penninger Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Williams Penninger; sons Randy, David and Jon and wife, Joy; and six grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 30 at James Funeral Home.
