Duke Energy has told the N.C. Utilities Commission that it will be asking for an increase in the rates they charge customers, according to a report by the Gaston Gazette.
Just last year, Duke Energy requested a 17 percent rate increase for their customers, but the commission passed a 7.2 percent rate increase instead.
The rate increase is said to pay for hundreds of millions in maintenance and upgrades.
