HUNTERSVILLE – Tyler Buchanan of Huntersville was selected to participate in Wake Forest’s International Service Program in Vietnam during winter break.
Buchanan and 10 other Wake Forest students joined other students from the University of Can Tho in Vietnam, to build two houses for needy families.
Buchanan said playing soccer with the kids, was his favorite part of the trip. “I gave a little light-up ball to a little boy and the look on his face is something I will always remember, he said. “He was so excited to have that ball.”
This was Buchanan’s first time out of the country and this trip has fueled his passion to see the rest of the world.
“You see different places on TV, but going to a foreign country for the first time,” Buchanan said. “I saw that there is a world out there besides the United States. It helped me realize that, and there are other cultures that are unique.”
Buchanan is studying business at Wake Forest, but says he’d like to eventually go to law school. He dreams of becoming a professional sports agent. He played varsity football at Hopewell High School.
