The Huntersville Fire Department responded to a reported building fire at 4:23 p.m. Jan. 28 at Duke Energy's McGuire Nuclear Station.

Fire units from fire station two arrived on to the scene at 4:27 p.m. to find a small fire in a brick communications building outside of the plant operational area.

The communications building is located away from the plant and didn't affect operations at all, according to a McGuire Nuclear Station spokesperson.

Fire was quickly put out by firefighters and fire damage was confined to an air conditioning unit with some smoke damage to the building.

The unit was removed and all fire units were cleared by 5:15 p.m.
