Carolyn Redman Herl

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Carolyn Redman Herl, 82, were held Jan. 8, 2013, at the Clubhouse at The Glens.

She died Jan. 5, 2013, at Olde Knox Commons Nursing Home.

Born June 16, 1930, in Ashtabula, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Charles Redman and Florence Mae Jeffers Redman.

She was the church organist and choir director at Kingsville Presbyterian Church in Kingsville, Ohio, for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Duane R. Redman.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, H. Douglas Herl; sons, Douglas D. Herl and wife, Wanda, of Columbus, Ohio, and David A. Herl and wife, Barbara, of Charlotte; daughter, Cathy Publicover and husband, Jim, of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials in her honor may be made to Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 3056 West Main St., Kingsville, OH 44048.

Daniel Page Grose

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Daniel Page Grose, 55, were held Jan. 6, 2013, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

He died Jan. 3 at Carolinas Medical Center.

Born Feb. 25, 1957, in Atlanta, Ga., he was a son of the late Leo Page Grose and Pearl Washam Grose.

Grose was information technology manager at Andreoli Associates and served on the board of the Carolina Fly Fishing Club.

He is survived by his brother, Michael L. Grose and wife, Deborah Leazer of Mt.Mourne; sister, Lisa Hope and husband, Chris, of Easley S.C.; and nieces, Meredith and Madison Hope.

To Thi Tran

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for To Thi Tran, “Teresa,” 81, were held Jan. 5, 2013, at Giao Xu Thanh Guise.

She died Jan. 3 at the Sherrills Ford Hospice House.

Tran was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Vietnam.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thuc-Duc-Nguyen.

Survivors include her daughters, Ly Thi Nguyen, Hoang Thi Nguyen and Thinh Thi Nguyen; and son, Hung-Duc-Nguyen.

Patricia Ann Blaker

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Patricia Ann Blaker, 73, were held Jan. 7, 2013, at Community in Christ Lutheran Church.

She died unexpectedly Jan. 2 at her home.

Born on Nov. 10, 1939, in Phillips, Wis., she was the eldest daughter of the late Peter and Elsie Pisca.

Blaker was retired from United Healthcare, where she worked for more than 16 years as a department manager. She was most recently employed by Crossmark. Additionally, Blaker worked for the N.C. Election Committee.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bill; granddaughter, Rachel Bonzo; and brother-in-law, Russ Lund.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Thompson, Debra Cook and husband, Matt Brick, Sarah Culver and Laura Blaker-Menz; grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Thompson, Natalie Brown, Nick Culver, Gabriel, Blake Ann and Nathan Menz; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Trampf, Shirley Lund, Sally Denzine and Marc Jamo; brother-in-law, Ron Blaker; and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Wallington and Norma Keller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Community in Christ Lutheran Church, 7621 Norman Island Drive, Cornelius, NC 28031.

Laura Frances Shinn White Shoaf

DAVIDSON – Funeral services for Laura Frances Shinn White Shoaf were held Jan. 5, 2013, at Ramah Presbyterian Church in Huntersville.

She died Dec. 31, 2012.

Shoaf graduated from Troutman High School and Kings business college and served as an administrative assistant for 39 years at Davidson College under presidents David Martin and Samuel Spencer. She also worked in the college’s development office.

She served as a Ramah Presbyterian Church deacon.

Shoaf was preceded in death by her parents, John and Leona Shinn; brother, Brice Shinn, and husbands, Hugh Alexander White  and Edwin H. Shoaf Sr.

Survivors include her son, Allan and his wife, Joyce, of Davidson; daughter, Laura Anne and husband, Land Hite, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Laura Beth and Chad Hite; and nephews, Barry, Robert and John Shinn.
