Winton Ray Poole

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Winton Ray Poole, 85, were held Jan. 14, 2013, at Providence Methodist Church in Charlotte.

He died Jan. 9 after a brief illness.

Poole was born March 14, 1927, in Durham, to Willie and Annie Poole. He graduated from Durham High School, The Kennedy American School and Louisiana State University’s banking school.

He served as senior vice president of marketing for North Carolina National Bank, now Bank of America. By the time he retired, he was the longest serving marketing executive in the banking industry in Charlotte.

After he retired, Poole became involved in civic life in Cornelius. Twice elected to the Cornelius Town Board, he also served one partial term as mayor.

Poole was a member of the board of directors for ElectriCities and Our Towns Habitat for Humanity. One of the Habitat neighborhood streets is named “Poole Place” in his honor.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Janet Marie Thompson Poole; daughters Jan Stanley and her husband, Steve, of Aho, and Jill McDevitt and her husband, Richard, of Davidson; sisters, Ellen P. Bridges of Ormond Beach, Fla., Hilda Holtzclaw of Morristown, Tenn., and Doris Jones of Durham; and grandsons, Drew and Lee Stanley and Dylan and Carter McDevitt.

Marion G. Brooks

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Marion G. Brooks, 75, were held Jan. 2, 2013, at Asbury United Methodist Church.

He died Dec. 30, 2012.

Born May 27, 1937, in Mecklenburg County to the late Marcus and Florence Brooks, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie.

Survivors include his son, Brian Brooks and wife, Audrey, of Kings Mountain; daughter, Ann Marie Hudson of Huntersville; brother, Jack of Matthews; sister, Jane Hefner of Stanfield; grandchildren, Wesley, Mandy and husband, Jeff, Kalin and Melissa; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Addison.

Donald VanCleave Boggess

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Donald VanCleave Boggess, 73, were held Jan. 3, 2013, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

He died Dec. 29, 2012.

Born Sept. 25, 1939, in Paducah, Ky., he was a son of the late Carlos Joe Boggess and Ellen Elizabeth Osborne Boggess.

He retired from the banking and mortgage industries.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Carpenter Boggess; children, Todd Boggess and wife, Shannon, and Troy Boggess, all of Huntersville, Shannon Elrod, John Boggess and wife, Delores, and Jeff Boggess, all of Greenville, S.C.; and brother, Roger Boggess of St. Louis, Mo.

Bobby Lee Nidiffer

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Bobby Lee Nidiffer, 75, were held Jan. 3, 2013, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

He died Dec. 29, 2012.

Born Sept. 15, 1937, in Bud, W. Va., he was a son of the late Wyley Jess Nidiffer and Lourene Mandie Williams Nidiffer.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Constar International.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Hamm Nidiffer.

Survivors include his children, Vickie Greene and husband, Gary, of Mooresville and Bobbie Smith and husband, Randy, of Huntersville; sister, Janice Orr of Elizabethton, Tenn.; brother, Roy Nidiffer of Hampton, Tenn.; granddaughters, Jennifer Cheung, Amanda Wilson, and Heather Smith; and great-granddaughter, Lauren Cheung.

Sara Frances Barnes Edmund

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Sara Frances Barnes Edmund, 76, will be held Jan. 19, 2013, at James Funeral Home.

She died Oct. 23, 2012.

She retired from UCB bank in Chadbourn and worked with her daughter at Edmund Massage Center in Cornelius.

Survivors include her children, Kaye Barnes of Lumberton, Paula Edmund of Charlotte, Richard Manly “Dickie” Edmund Jr., of Little Rock, Ark., and Leigh Edmund Harkey of New Salem; sister, Miriam Barnes Bullard of Lake Gaston; and brother, Jimmy Barnes of Campobello, S.C.
