Grier named national player of the year

DAVIDSON – Will Grier, a junior quarterback at Davidson Day, on Wednesday was named the national football player of the year on the MaxPreps Small Schools All-American team.
Grier led the nation in passing yards (5,785) and touchdown passes (69) this season. Both marks also set state records, as Grier led the Patriots to a second straight state championship.
Grier, who committed to Florida, also was named the N.C. Gatorade Player of the Year, and was on the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association and N.C. Associated Press all-state teams.
He completed 324 of 414 passes (78 percent) percent, and threw 11 two-point conversions. Grier also led the Patriots in rushing (813 yards) and scored eight touchdowns.
The MaxPreps Small Schools All-American team consists of players chosen from schools that have less than 1,000 students.
