Two SUV’s were involved in a head-on crash Jan. 11 at the 8400 block of Gilead Road in Huntersville after one of the vehicles crossed into the oncoming lane, according to the Huntersville Police Department.

Seven people were injured in the crash, including two that were considered serious injuries. One victim was flown by a medic’s helicopter to Carolina’s Medical Center.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but alcohol or drug use was not suspected for either driver.

According to a statement released by the Huntersville Fire Department, Station 1 and North Mecklenburg Rescue were dispatched at 3:32 p.m. to the 8430 block of Gilead Road.

A total of 7 patients were treated and packaged for transport. One pediatric priority patient and one adult priority patient, the adult priority was flown out by Med Center. The remaining 6 patients were transported by MEDIC to CMC Main.

Units reporting to the scene were Huntersville Engines 1, 2; North Meck Rescues 1, 2, 7; 3 MEDIC Units, MEDIC Supervisor, and the MEDIC Alert Bus; Med Center Air and the Huntersville Police Department.
