HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Alma M. Chapman, 76, were held Dec. 21 at Northdale Baptist Church.

She died Dec. 27, 2012, at her home.

Chapman was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Iredell County, to the late Millard and Gladys McHarge.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Chapman; sons, Lamar and wife, Traci, of Huntersville and Nelson and wife, Deborah, of Cornelius; brother, Melvin of Hiddenite; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Alfred Allen Davis

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Alfred Allen Davis were held Dec. 30 at Independence Hill Baptist Church.

He died Dec. 26, 2012.

Davis was a son of the late Arthur Alander and Blandena U. Davis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired after 35 years from the Charlotte Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert B. Davis; brothers, David Davis, Oran Davis, Earl H. Davis, Thomas A. Davis; and sisters Agnes Knox and Polly Earnhardt.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rose Kluttz Davis, son, Michael A. Davis and wife, Debra, of Huntersville; daughter, Janet D. Dove and husband, Robert M. Dove, of Huntersville; daughter-in-law, Jean G. Davis of Kannapolis; brothers, James U. Davis and Whit Davis; sister, Lottie D. Campbell; grandchildren, Gregory A. Davis, Sarah D. Franklin and husband, Greg, Kelly E. Dove, Melissa A. Davis and Nathan P. Dove.

Minnie Lee Johnston Whitley

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Minnie Lee Johnston Whitley, 87, were held Dec. 28 at Sharon Memorial Park.

She died Dec. 25, 2012, at Genesis Elder Care.

Whitley was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Rowan County, to the late Charles M. Johnston and Ollie Anderson Johnston.

She was retired from AT&T and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Whitley; brother; James Johnston; and sisters, Marie Mitchell and Cordie Lankford.

Whitley is survived by her sisters; Mildred Stikeleather and Evelyn Hedrick of Statesville, and Alice Toungate of Austin, Texas; and brother, Russell Johnston of Mooresville.

DAVIDSON – Funeral services for Timothy Lee Piercy, 56, were held Dec. 26 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Piercy was born March 29, 1956, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Horace and Libby Piercy.

Shirley Shinn Hollar

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Shirley Shinn Hollar, 76, were held Dec. 26 at Hopewell Baptist Church.

She died Dec. 22, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville.

Hollar was born March 4, 1936, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Webb and Annie Hall Shinn.

She was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and retired from Cairn Studios.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Connie Davis; and brother, Kermit Shinn.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Nelson Hollar Sr.; son, Paul N. Hollar Jr. and wife, Joan, of Davidson; daughters, Kathe Hollar Kepley and husband, Larry, of Huntersville and Zina Hollar of Huntersville; brother, Kenneth Shinn; grandson, Tristan Hollar; and great-granddaughter, Emma.

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Joe D. Morris were held Jan. 11 at Bethel Presbyterian Church.

He died Dec. 20, 2012, at his home after an extended illness.

Morris was born in Charlotte to Joe and Laura Morris.

He graduated from UNC Charlotte and owned Ashe Kickers Chimney Service and Lake Norman Hardware.
