Corbett Efird Holt
CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Corbett Efird “C.E.” Holt were held Sept. 2 at Huntersville United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn West.
Holt, 89, of Cornelius, died Aug. 29 at his home.
Born Sept. 3, 1922, in Stanley County, he was a son of the late Stellar Vance and Lottie Efird Holt.
He served in the US Army during World War II and worked as a medic in England and Germany. He also founded, owned and operated C.E. Holt Refrigeration in Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Helen Pinion Holt; sons, Derrick Holt and wife Anne of Charlotte and Jeffrey Holt and wife Pat of Huntersville; brothers, Don of Charlotte and Carroll of Virginia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Thomas Wayne Martin
CORNELIUS – Private funeral services were held for Thomas Wayne Martin.
Martin, 77, of Cornelius, died Aug. 25 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born in Myrtle Beach, S.C., he was a son of the late Frederick and Thelma Martin.
He was a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School and served in the US Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Anne Blackwell Martin; son, Thomas Wayne “Chip” Martin and wife Ana of Tampa, Fla.; daughters, Lois Johnson and husband Burt of Denver, and Jane Dupree and husband David of Cornelius; and grandchildren, Matthew and Gabriel Martin, Tyler and Parker Johnson, and Banks, Carmen and Britton Dupree.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Freddy Martin and Chubby Martin.

Sammy Wilson Cross
HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Sammy Wilson Cross were held Sept. 2 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Cross, 80, of Huntersville, died Aug. 30.
Born May 20, 1932, he was a son of the late G. Lester and Bess Wilson Cross.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Gayle Cross; and brothers, George Herman Cross and Benjamin Cross.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nancy Elliott Cross; daughter, Jan Cross Hodges, and husband Robert of Clemmons; and grandchildren, Robert Hodges Jr. and wife Ashley and Claire Gayle Hodges.

Maurice Spenser VanHecke
DAVIDSON – Funeral services for Maurice Spenser VanHecke were held Sept. 5 at Davidson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jody Seymour officiating.
VanHecke, 16, of Davidson, died Aug. 31.
Born Jan. 5, 1996, in Mecklenburg County, he was a son of Michael Spenser VanHecke and Evelyn Kinney VanHecke. He was a junior at Hough High School. He played Nothing But Net basketball and loved weightlifting, water and snow sports.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his sisters, Kinney Williamson VanHecke and Faye Maclin VanHecke, both of Davidson; and grandparents, Bill and Imogene Kinney of Charlotte and M.S. and Faye VanHecke of Waxhaw.

Vivian Ripley
DAVIDSON – Memorial services for Vivian Ripley will be held 4-5 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Pines in Davidson
Ripley, 89, died Sept. 1 after a 13-year battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 10, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Gaynell Cobble in Mosheim, Tenn.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bo; daughter, Susan Ripley Costner, and brother, Raymond Cobble.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula Ripley Bell and husband, Harold of Davidson; son, Richard Ripley and wife, Mary, of Kingsport, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
