Wingate University sophomore setter Alison Cooke, a North Mecklenburg High alum, was  named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week.

Cooke averaged 5.7 assists and 1.7 digs per set to help the Bulldogs win all three matches in the Wingate Classic last weekend.

Cooke nearly had a double-double in the season-opening win Friday against Lees-McRae. She handed out 11 assists, and had nine digs. Cooke compiled 21 assists and four digs in Wingate’s sweep against Winston-Salem State, and  had 19 assists and six digs  against UNC Pembroke.

Cooke graduated from North Mecklenburg  in 2010, and was the I-MECK 4A conference player of the year as an outside hitter her senior year.
