DAVIDSON – Davidson College's captains for the 2012-13 men's basketball team are seniors Nik Cochran, Jake Cohen, J.P. Kuhlman and Clint Mann.
The captains were selected by a vote of the team and coaching staff.
“We are fortunate to have four seniors who are not just skilled basketball players, but they also have the talent of leadership,” said Davidson coach Bob McKillop.
Cochran, one of two Wildcats to start every game last season, averaged 10.9 points and led the team in assists per game (3.6), free-throw percentage (.886) and 3-point percentage (.373). The third-team all-conference selection was also named Southern Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 20 after leading Davidson to an 80-74 win over then-ranked No. 12 Kansas with a game-high 21 points.
Cohen, voted SoCon Player of the Year by the media, Cohen ranks among Davidson’s all-time leaders in points (1,287 / 20th), blocks (141 / second) and rebounds (566 / 24th). The 6-foot-10 forward last season averaged 14.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and a conference-best 1.7 blocks, while ranking second to Cochran in the conference with a .876 free-throw shooting percentage.
Kuhlman, the seventh Davidson men’s player to garner Academic All-America honors, started every game last season and averaged 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists. A career 37-percent shooter from behind the 3-point arc, Kuhlman was one of three Wildcats named to the 2012 SoCon All-Tournament team.
In 2011-12, Mann contributed 5.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 31 games off the bench. After scoring 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting in the SoCon Championship, the 6-7 forward scored a season-high 13 points in Davidson’s NCAA Tournament game against 2012 Final Four participant Louisville.
