Hough benefit to raise money for student with cancer
by Staff Writer
Torie Costa, a Hough High junior, is battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer of the connective tissues. Her school’s volleyball team will hold a benefit game at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at the school, 12420 Bailey Road, Cornelius. The school will play North Mecklenburg High School.
Madeline Lippy, a junior member of the volleyball team, said last year the team gave money raised from its annual fundraiser to the Dig Pink Foundation, which funds breast cancer research. This year, they will give money to a fund setup through Torie’s CaringBridge.org webpage.
Torie was diagnosed with cancer last June after doctors discovered a tumor attached to her diaphragm. Donations sent to her medical fund will help the Costa family pay for medical expenses.
