CHARLOTTE – Florida-based Publix Super Markets announced today that they leased space in the city’s Ballantyne area for their first North Carolina supermarket. According to the company announcement, the store will be located at Providence Road West and Johnston Road and will be part of a new company division based in Charlotte.

The store opening is tentatively scheduled for early 2014. Publix operates markets in South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Georgia.

“We look forward to providing the Charlotte community with the high quality service and products that our customers have come to expect and that have earned us recognition throughout the industry,” Publix CEO Ed Crenshaw said in a statement.
