CORNELIUS – Seventeen people are competing for the title of Biggest Cheese in Town.

They have agreed to raise at least $1,000 for Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, which provides affordable housing to families in need. Whoever raises the most money will be crowned Oct. 26 at the Cheese Ball.

Competitors are Jean Aswell, John Ballas, Kevin Beaty, Rob Bennett, Pat Berch, Dallas Bragg, Wylie Cossar, Jenn Cox, Molly Deaton, Rhett Hall, Jack Hart, Bill Kenney, Mary MacDonald, Krista Marks, Ashley McPherson, W. Aaron Schmitt and Robert Weldon.

Each is organizing and hosting fundraising events through Oct. 25, including:

• Girls Night Out: 4-7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Brow Lounge, 19825 North Cove Road, Cornelius.

• Barbecue lunch (sandwich, chips and drink): 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Peoples Bank, 9624 Bailey Road, Cornelius. The event costs $6.

• Aloha Cup: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 6 at Peninsula Yacht Club, 18501 Harbor Light Blvd., Cornelius. Registration costs $20.

• Art of Photography Show: 6-9 p.m. Oct. 13 at Andre Christine Gallery, 148 Ervin Road, Mooresville.

• Cheese Ball: 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 26 at KadFit, 19725 Oak St., Cornelius.
