Davidson baseball coach Dick Cooke has been appointed chairman of the NCAA Baseball Rules committee.

Cooke’s term on the rules committee began last month and he will serve through September 2015. The chair appointment is year-to-year. As chair, Cooke will be responsible for leading the committee’s deliberations at the annual meeting and serve as the committee’s spokesperson.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve on the rules committee, and even more so to serve as chair of it,” Cooke said. “The committee seeks the input of coaches, umpires and administrators at all levels of college baseball to protect the integrity of the game and improve player safety. I look forward to working with the committee towards those goals to ensure student-athletes have a great experience playing college baseball.”

Cooke is beginning his 23rd season as Davidson’s head coach. He is the winningest coach in school history (402 victories) and has served as a coach for USA Baseball’s Pan-American and Olympic squads.
