The “Victory Office” will hold its grand opening Aug. 4 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. The office will open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Huntersville Marine to graduate from training

HUNTERSVILLE – Private First Class Devin McDowell Williams of Huntersville will graduate from the United States Marine Corps recruit training at Parris Island, S.C. on Aug. 3.

During basic training, he received the Sharpshooter Badge, the Corps’ second highest marksmanship level.

Williams will return home for leave before entering into The Citadel Military College, in Charleston, S.C., as a freshman cadet this fall.

Williams graduated in June from CMS High School – Global Military and Leadership Academy.  He is the son of Dianna and Vern Williams.

Pack the patrol car with Cornelius Police Department

CORNELIUS – Residents are invited to help the Cornelius Police Department Pack the Patrol Car with school supplies for the upcoming school year.

Donations of school supplies can be dropped off, Monday through Friday through Aug. 22 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the lobby of the police department, 21440 Catawba Avenue.

On Aug. 23,  Cornelius officers will deliver the donated items to Cornelius Elementary, J.V. Washam Elementary, Bailey Middle and W.A. Hough High.

Recommended supplies include paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, highlighters, erasers, glue sticks, scissors, binders, pocket folders, hand sanitizer, tissues, back packs and lunch bags.

Kilted Buffalo hosting September Boston terrier rescue fundraiser

HUNTERSVILLE – Volunteers with the Boston Terrier Rescue of North Carolina will be serving up drinks from 7-11 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Kilted Buffalo in Birkdale to raise funds for their organization.

The group fosters and finds forever homes for Boston terriers. All of the tips from that evening will go toward the rescue. There will also be a raffle and several of the dogs will be there as well.

Kids raise $2,200 for Colorado fire disaster relief

CORNELIUS – During its annual five-day vacation Bible school recently, Grace Covenant Church welcomed 811 kindergarten through fifth grade children for “The Winning Edge.”

The record number of participants contributed $2,200 to assist with disaster relief for those impacted by recent Colorado fires.
