HUNTERSVILLE — The American Red Cross blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June.
All blood types are needed, especially O-positive, O-negative, B-negative and A-negative to meet patient demand this summer.
The Huntersville Blood Donation Center is located at 9800 Kincey Ave. Hours for whole blood donations are Mondays 2:30-7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Hours for platelet donations are weekends 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and Mondays 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Call 1-877-975-2835 for a platelet donation appointment.
On July 12, the Huntersville center is open, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. for the Annual Ben & Jerry’s “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” blood drive. All donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and enjoy ice cream after donating. The Ben & Jerry’s in Davidson is also hosting a blood drive on July 12, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. with coupons for presenting donors.
