Woodlawn soccer star signs with Belmont Abbey

DAVIDSON - Cassidy Coutinho, who graduated from Woodlawn School last month, signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Belmont Abbey College next fall. Coutinho was a three-year starter and three-time captain for the Trailblazers. During that time, the team was 32-2. Last season, Coutinho, a center midfielder, scored 10 goals and had eight assists. She also plays for the Charlotte Soccer Academy’s 18-under team in the Elite Clubs National Program.
“Cassidy is a brilliant soccer player,” Woodlawn coach Tim Helfrich, said. “She is a two-way player who defends and attacks very well. But more than her physical gifts and technical ability, Cassidy is a great leader on the field. She understands the game at a high level, she makes players around her better, and she plays with great joy.”
