CORNELIUS – Seven members of the Lake Norman YMCA gymnastics team competed in the YMCA National Gymnastics Championships June 28-July 2 in Milwaukee. The competition included more than 1,700 athletes from across the country.
Lake Norman’s Hannah Madsen (level 4) scored her season-best with an all-around score of 35.85. Aya Rose (level 5) was third all-around and on the beam. Lindy Heyl (level 5) was second all-around, first on beam, and second on bars. Kelly Morris (level 6) was first all-around, second on bars, and first on beam and floor. The Y Angels’ level 7 team of Cassie Shue, Emma Yeakley and Nicole Yeakley earned season-bests in national competition.
“The YMCA is very fortunate to offer competitive programs that allow gymnasts to be successful at a national level and provide them with the flexibility to still be kids,” Y Angels coach Michelle Ingham said. “We are pumped about the 2013 YMCA Nationals, hosted in Savannah, Georgia. With the Olympics around the corner, it is an exciting time for gymnastics.”
