HUNTERSVILLE — An annual farm tour will be held Sept. 15-16 by Know Your Farms, along with Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Piedmont Grown and the 10 percent Campaign.

This year’s tour includes East Of Eden
at 8300 McIlwaine Road in Huntersville. East of Eden hatches and raises Heritage breed poultry and turkey. All of its animals are on a GMO (generally modified organism) and soy-free diet and live life on pastures.

The Charlotte Area Farm Tour takes place from 1-6 p.m., Sept. 15-16 and highlights more than 40 local farms, including 13 new stops. The tour provides families the opportunity to make those important farm-to-fork connections and discover sources for fresh, healthy food in the greater Charlotte community.

The 2012 tour features a diversity of local farms, including fruit and vegetable growers, livestock producers, dairy farms, and even an alpaca farm. Many farms will be offering fun activities unique to the tour, such as hayrides, petting zoos, and cooking demonstrations.

The Charlotte Area Farm Tour is self-guided, and farms are located in clusters all around the Charlotte region for easy touring.  Advance tickets cost $25 per vehicle and can be purchased online at KnowYourFarmsTour.com. Entrance tickets can also be purchased on tour days for $30.
