The boards of Lake Norman Jewish Congregation and Beth Shalom of Lake Norman became a single congregation after six years of operating independently. The merger is intended to unite the Lake Norman Jewish community, pool resources and combine religious schools.

Rabbi Michael Shields will lead the new congregation of more than 175 families. The transition should happen over the summer. Organizers plan to officially launch the unified congregation during the Jewish High Holidays in the fall. Changes will include a new name, branding, merged boards, a combined religious school and affiliation with the Union for Reformed Judaism.
