DAVIDSON – Davidson College sociology students in assistant professor Jessica Taft’s Inequality in America class have created a website they hope will shed light on the plight of the unemployed and encourage empathy.
Students each interviewed one of the 46,000 unemployed people in the Charlotte area, analyzed information and compiled findings. The site can be found at prezi.com/explore by searching “experiences with unemployment.”
“Students were struck by how hard unemployed people were working to find a new job,” Taft said in a news release. “Many were well-qualified for work. They attended classes, lined up interviews, networked with colleagues, sent out résumés and used social networking.”
