WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. News and World Report recently named Hopewell High School the No. 1 public high school in North Carolina on its 2012 U.S. News Best High Schools list.

The news magazine, known for its college and university rankings, also ranked Hopewell High as the 663rd best high school in the nation. The rankings were based on student/teacher ratio, college readiness of students after graduation and average proficiency on state-mandated tests, such as Algebra I and English I.

The only other Charlotte-Mecklenburg school to crack the rankings was Garinger-Math Science, which ranked 10th in the state.
