RALEIGH – Several Lake Norman area schools placed in this year’s N.C. Science Olympiad State Tournament held April 27 and 28 at N.C. State University.

The tournament pitted regional Science Olympiad middle and high school winners against each other in a variety of activities that tested science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills. Activities covered STEM disciplines such as biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology. More than 11,000 students from 65 counties participated in this year’s event.

Middle school state participants:

• J.M Alexander Middle: fourth place

• St. Mark Catholic School: 13th place

High school state participants:

• North Mecklenburg High: 18th place
