CORNELIUS – J.D. Goodrum Company Inc., of Cornelius, recently announced the company’s award of the Romare Bearden Park project. The 5-acre new construction project, located at 300 Church St. in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, was designed by LandDesign of Charlotte.

Construction is underway and scheduled to be completed in early 2013. Romare Bearden Park visitors will enjoy two gathering lawns, Big Moon Green and The Formal Oval, capable of hosting large or small events respectively; Childhood Muse Plaza which features an interactive fountain and public art; multiple gathering spaces named Paris Memory and Madeline’s and Maudell’s gardens based on Bearden’s work.

The Evocative Spine ties all elements of the park’ together creating a thoroughfare for the park bringing elements of water, art and gathering space together.

At one end of the Spine sits the Baseball Plaza, directly across from the proposed Charlotte Knights Stadium, connecting the two urban gathering spaces.  There are also new vertical elements such as the Arbor, Trellis, Art Wall and a restroom facility located in the park equipped with green roof and sustainable design components.
