HUNTERSVILLE – Devan Kline is passionate about training moms.

While playing minor-league baseball for the San Francisco Giants, Kline lived with a host family for two years. The mother of the house, Vanessa, started training with Kline during his morning workouts, and he found his calling.

“I got to see the impact first hand, the way fitness can change someone’s life, especially moms,” Kline said.

He saw Vanessa’s energy increase, allowing her to play with her kids throughout the day. Kline said he saw the benefits in her relationship, as well.

“Her husband would compliment her a lot more; it really brought their marriage together,” Kline said.

Now Kline offers training and boot camps in the Lake Norman area. He’ll work with anyone, but moms are his focus. Classes start at 5:30 a.m. weekdays at 14311 Hunters Road.

Sarah Wilson, of Huntersville, is a teacher and mother to a 7-year-old and a 12-year-old. She works out three times a week before her family gets up, making it possible to fit exercise in.

For Stephanie Timmerman, mother of 7-year-old triplets and a 9-year-old, Kline offered her a chance to get back into fitness after a long break.

“He targets every muscle every time. It goes by so fast. It’s not boring at all. He makes you want to work hard,” Timmerman said.

As a physical therapist who suffers from back problems, Timmerman needed a trainer who knows the right way to exercise without injury.

“He modifies, but still pushes you,” she said.
