Editor,

We can be pretty proud of our town of Huntersville. It is the fastest growing town in the Charlotte area, and Charlotte is the fourth-fastest-growing area in the U.S.

Huntersville has a AAA bond rating, a balanced budget, an emergency cash reserve, and an award-winning chief financial officer. It also has the lowest Ad Valorem tax rate ($0.29/$100) of the 20 largest municipalities in North Carolina. It has the fewest employees per resident of any North Carolina town. Huntersville also has the fewest public works employees per resident and the fewest employees per mile of road maintained of the 23 largest towns in North Carolina.

Our town’s park and recreation program served more than one million visitors last year. The Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatic center now has 8,000 members – or the equivalent of one in six Huntersville residents – and pays for itself. Next month, HFFA will host the National AAU Diving Championships. Our police and fire departments conduct nine crime-prevention programs, 24 community events and nine new health and safety programs.

Spend a few hours at Discovery Place Kids with your children or grandchildren and experience the magic of imagination.

Our town is pretty impressive. If you agree, find a way to give the staff and board a pat on the back.
