The J.M. Alexander Middle School Varsity Science Olympiad team will go on to compete in the state level competition after placing second overall in the Saturday, March 3, regional competition at UNC-Charlotte.

The school fielded two teams, a junior varsity and varsity team, which competed in 23 science related events that tested their knowledge on topics such as bottle rocketry, meteorology and heredity. The junior varsity team also placed second in their division out of 43 middle schools.

The teams earned a total of seven gold medals, seven silver medals and 10 bronze medals.
