DAVIDSON – Police called to Davidson Day School on Feb. 29 found a teacher and students using air soft guns as part of a classroom activity.

The Davidson Police Department received a call from a nearby resident who reported seeing people in camouflage carrying guns and running in the wooded area behind the school.

The officers found a teacher and seven or eight students dressed in camouflage and dark clothing, and confirmed that the air soft guns were not actual firearms.

The school did not have to go on lockdown because school officials quickly resolved the incident. The school told police they knew of the class’ general topic, but were not aware that students would be using air soft pellet guns.

The school did not respond to a request for comment before press time.
