HUNTERSVILLE – Bob Riker, a member of the Huntersville Lions Club, was recently awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship award, the club’s highest honor.

Riker joined the Lions nearly 20 years ago in New Jersey and held various positions with the local organizations there and in Brevard before moving to Huntersville. He was secretary of the Huntersville club for three years and sponsored several new members.

The Melvin Jones Fellowship is named for the organization’s founder. Since its founding in Chicago in 1917, the organization now has more than 1.3 million chapters in 206 countries. The club’s focus is in working with the blind and visually impaired.

In addition to his work for the Lions, he and his wife, Geri, are active in other community organizations. They attend St. Mark Catholic Church.
