CORNELIUS – A Cornelius man slipped a bank teller a note last week saying he had a gun and demanding money, Cornelius police said.

Police say Sam Sherrill, 52, of Zion St., went to the Carolinas Telco Federal Credit Union at 20221 W. Catawba Ave., and approached a teller with the note.

Sherrill was arrested a few moments later in the parking lot after an employee called police. Police did not find a weapon on him when he was arrested.

Sherrill was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He was being held at the Mecklenburg County jail on a $50,000 bond.
