Joan Sperry Shade
HUNTERSVILLE – Joan Sperry Shade, 65, of Huntersville, formerly Centerville, Ohio, died March 12, 2012, at the Levine Dickson Hospice House.
She was born April 3, 1946, in Saginaw, Mich., to the late John and Monica Sperry. Shade earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Dayton. She taught robotics and engineering at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughters, Jane Shade-Duys and husband, Emiel, of Huntersville, Becky Honious and husband, Jeff, of Taylorsville and Suzi Kirby and husband, Gregg, of Charlotte; sister, Mari Thompson; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were private.

Julia Jeanette Rhodes Saunders
HUNTERSVILLE – Julia Jeanette Rhodes Saunders, 90, of Huntersville, died March 11, 2012, at Deal Care Inn, Mooresville.
Born April 16, 1921 in Gastonia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Orr Rhodes and Bessie Morris Rhodes.
She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Gray and husband, Richard, of Newport, and Sherrie Cashion and husband, Larry, of Huntersville; brothers, Cecil and Franklin Rhodes; grandchildren, Christopher and Daniel Gray and Trent Wharton; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Olivia and Julia Anne Gray and Ares and Sage Wharton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Richard Saunders, in 2007, six brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service was held March 14 at Sharon Memorial Park.

J.B. Heglar
HUNTERSVILLE – J. B. Heglar, 80, of Lincolnton, formerly of Huntersville, died March 16, 2012, at his home.
Born Sept. 22, 1931, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late John Bell Heglar and Innes Louella Corriher Heglar. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a retired safety director in the trucking.
He is survived by his son Gary Heglar and wife, Debi, of Lincolnton; brother, William Heglar of Mooresville; sisters, Barbara Johnson of Phoenix City, Ala., Louise Heglar of Salisbury, and Joyce Risden of Midway; grandchildren, Amber Roberts and husband, Todd, and Adam Heglar and wife, Calie; and great-grandchildren, William Grayson Roberts and Emily Grace Roberts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rilza Wiley Heglar, in 2009.
A memorial service was held March 18 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wade Ogle officiating.

Patricia Anne Matheny Coey
DAVIDSON – Patricia Anne Matheny Coey, 84, of Davidson, died March 16 at her home.
Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harry Matheny and Maude McCamey Matheny. Coey was a retired medical receptionist.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil Coey; sons, Tim Coey and wife, Mary, of Huntersville, and Larry Coey and wife, Penny, of Elyria, Ohio; daughter, Nancy Coey, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ashley Coey, and 10 siblings.
